Mini Tutorial
Plug in comes with a full set of detailed help
pages and on screen video tutorials.

This set of conforming lingerie for V3 was made using the Poser 5/6 Clothing Creator plug in.

Method

The cloth template

Start in Photoshop (or similar) by using the figure templates to draw the outline of the garment. Allow room at the sides. Imagine that the clothing is being laid flat for ironing. Keep the lines simple, the cloth is going to move into position over the body so you do not need to accurately follow every minute curve.

Draw closed seams in black (#000000), open seams in red (#FF0000), background in green (#00FF00) and the cloth in white (#FFFFFF). Lines must be one pixel wide with no anti aliasing. Create a similar template for the rear.

All the templates used to create this set are included in the zip. You will find them in the Read Me folder.

Depth maps

A large number of templates and depth maps are included for your convenience. You are by no means restricted to using just those. Instructions are given on how to make your own using the updated Python tools in Poser. Nothing complicated, ... load the figure, click the button, export the image.

Run the plug in

Start Poser 5/6 and open the Clothing Creator plug in. Load in the front and rear cloth template and the front and rear depth maps as indicated. Set your options regarding mesh resolution, quad or triangulated mesh and depth scale. In broad terms half the depth (z dimension) is created by the plug in, the rest in the Cloth Room. This is very flexible, there is a lot of room for experimentation and creativity.

When the plug in finishes it will have loaded a model of the clothing to the Poser window. Follow the on screen instructions to weld the front and back halves together using the grouping tool. There is nothing complicated here, I just did not have access to automate this part using Python. It goes:- New group ... add all to group ... weld group ... spawn prop ... export prop as an OBJ file.
Next load into Poser the appropriate PZ3 file supplied in each figure set. It will be set up with the figure and the simulation. Import the previously saved clothing model. Follow the very clear instructions provided with the plug in and run the simulation. You could almost just go with the defaults but the instructions indicate what settings you may need to change and why. The final frame will contain the completed clothing model. This may be saved as a Dynamic Clothing Prop to be used in future scenes.

Conforming Clothing

If you wish to make the model into conforming clothing you will need to split it into the required body part groups. For this you can either use the grouping tool or as I prefer, UVMapper. In the Pro version you can load in a background. Here I have loaded in the model of V3 with the body parts colour coded. This makes it very easy to see where to group the model. I am in the process of preparing similar colour coded images to be included with each figure set.

With no alteration simply use the front and rear template that you created as templates for your textures. The model will automatically have a "front" and "rear" material set into it for this purpose. Alternately you can use UVMapper to reposition the sections of mesh to better fill the available area.

The easiest way to make the model into conforming clothing is to edit the CR2 file of an existing similar item of clothing. This is just a matter of opening the CR2 file up in a text editor such as Wordpad and changing the two lines that contain "obj". If you wish you can for example use any of the CR2 files in this package.

If you own Wardrobe Wizard you can simply use one of the donor CR2 files from the Wardrobe Wizard\data folder.

Other Options

A variation to the above is the method I used to create the skirt. For this I drew a circle template with a pie slice taken out of it. I used this for the front template. The rear template was a plain green square and the depth maps plain gray. The resulting model was then turned horizontal and allowed to drape against the figure's legs in the Cloth Room. The area that intersected the figure was assigned to the constrained group.

I appreciate that the body handles are not something a new Poser user would be expected to know how to create, but remember that all you need to do to get similar in your model is to edit my CR2 file to point to your own OBJ.

The plug in is not designed to be a "one click" solution. Rather by simple steps it enables you to create a wide range of clothing styles for many different Poser figures without the use of a conventional 3D modeling application. It allows flexibility and creativity. On screen video tutorials showing every stage of the process are included with the plug in. If you wish to view a sample video please click here.
